Meet Our Founders
CEO / Cofounder
Matt Freitas is the CEO, co-owner, and co-founder of Sacred Spore Company, an Oregon licensed psilocybin cultivator. Alongside his best friend of nearly 30 years, Matt co-founded Sacred Spore with a simple but ambitious mission: to help heal the world by expanding access to safe, high-quality psilocybin.
A self-taught citizen scientist, Matt is driven by a deep curiosity about fungal medicine and an unwavering commitment to helping people struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, and end-of-life distress. His journey into this work is rooted in personal experience. After witnessing both of his parents battle terminal cancer and spend their final days in hospice—including the loss of his mother to esophageal cancer—Matt became determined to help make psilocybin available to those facing end-of-life anxiety and other profound mental health challenges.
Building Sacred Spore was a four-year journey marked by perseverance, including two years spent searching for a cultivation site before finding the rare "unicorn" property that met Oregon's strict licensing requirements. Matt often says he entered this industry with his eyes wide open, knowing the financial challenges and slim margins. But for him, this work has never been about building the easiest business—it has always been about helping move the field forward. Whether that means pushing the boulder forward an inch or getting knocked down in the process, he believes the effort is worthwhile if it brings safe, legal psilocybin one step closer to the people who need it most.

I'm Robert Brady, originally from Auburn, CA. Before relocating to Milwaukie seven years ago, I spent 15 years in Chicago. My journey has been remarkable, as I've traveled the world as a singer, actor, and U.S Navy member, ultimately discovering my true passion for healing. With 18 years of experience as a clinical massage therapist and a newfound interest in mycology, I am dedicated to helping those facing depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Our goal is to share our mycological expertise and ensure that this healing medicine reaches those who need it most, believing that our efforts can contribute to meaningful change in the world.
